1. Master the Parry Timing

Parrying is your best friend in Sifu. Unlike dodging, a successful parry stuns enemies and leaves them open for a devastating counter. Practice the timing against basic enemies in the first level. The key is to tap the block button just as the attack lands—not too early, not too late. Once you get it down, you'll shred through groups.

2. Use Dodge for Crowd Control

When surrounded, dodging is safer than parrying. Tap down on the left stick (or dodge direction) while blocking to perform a dodge. This creates space and avoids the chip damage from blocked attacks. Combine dodge with a quick forward attack to close the gap again.

3. Don't Ignore the Training Room

The training room in the hub area is essential. Spend your first hours there practicing combos, parries, and timing against different enemy types. You can also toggle enemy aggression to practice specific scenarios. This is where muscle memory is built.

4. Learn Enemy Attack Patterns

Each enemy type has a unique set of attacks. The brute with the pipe, the martial artist, the club brawler—all have tells. Study them. For example, a slight pause before a kick means a low attack you can avoid with a dodge. Knowing these patterns reduces the need to rely on death counters.

5. Manage Your Age Wisely

Age increases damage output but lowers health. You want to stay under 45 to have a decent health pool. If you die and resurrect, your age jumps. To minimize aging, avoid dying. Use the ability to revive once per level at 0 age cost by unlocking the 'Blade of the Unseen' shrine? Actually, there's no direct revive cost reduction, but you can restart a level from the beginning to keep your age lower. Plan your runs: learn the level, then go back fresh.

6. Use the Environment

Throw objects like bottles and chairs to stun enemies from a distance. Kick enemies into walls for extra damage. You can also use ledges to throw enemies off—instant takedown. Environmental kills don't cost structure or health.

7. Unlock the Right Skills First

Focus on permanent unlocks early: 'Charged Haymaker' for damage, 'Ground Parry' to counter floor attacks, and 'Focus Grip' to stop enemy attacks. Avoid temporary skills until you have spare XP. You can unlock skills permanently by spending 5x the cost (press triangle on them). Do that for key ones.

8. Use Focus to Break Defenses

Focus attacks are charged moves that use focus bar (built by landing hits). They can stagger bosses and break enemy guard. 'Focus Eye' and 'Focus Push' are versatile. Save focus for when you're about to get hit or to interrupt a powerful enemy attack.

9. Learn the 'Wude' Ending Path

Sifu has a secret pacifist ending called Wude. To get it, you must spare the bosses instead of killing them. This means not performing the final takedown when they are downed on their knees. Spare them by not pressing the button. This gives a different ending and unlocks unique dialogues. It's a great challenge for mastery.

10. Practice Makes Perfect

Finally, accept that you will die—a lot. Each death is a lesson. Use the death counter to track your progress. The game is designed to be replayed; each level gets easier as you learn. Don't get frustrated; the flow state you achieve after mastering the combat is incredibly satisfying. Keep at it, and you'll be a true Sifu.
